We had a laugh about Todd's surgery being scheduled on Friday the 13th, we aren't particularly superstitious people so it wasn't a big deal to us. The week leading up to the big day was slow and torturous, the anticipation was killing both of us. Friday finally arrived, we got the kids off to school and drove to the surgical center, getting there around 8:30am. They called him back and got him all ready, then called me back to sit with him. His surgery was supposed to start at 10:30am but they didn't take him back until 12:30pm because another patients procedure took so long. I ran off for a quick lunch and even managed to pop in to Babies R Us. His surgery also took longer as it turns out and he didn't get out until after 3 pm. The DR came out and told me that it went well but he had a lot of scar tissue from the previous surgery and he had to spend additional time dealing with that. Otherwise, he felt that everything else had gone well and he should have a good outcome. I got to see him an hour later and he was out of it. He finally came around and we were able to leave around 4:30pm. Traffic wasn't fun but we finally made it home and got him situated. He did well that night and the second day but today he was really uncomfortable despite the Percocet which he doesn't really like. He says it makes him feel weird. We're both hoping tomorrow will be a better day.
Now, onto the bonus hospital visit. On Wednesday, I went to brunch with the ladies from my neighborhood and had 2 episodes where I started to black out. I got hot and sweaty and felt a bit nauseous. I went home and rested for a bit and felt better. The next day I went to call my DR to report the incident and had some fluid leak along with irregular contractions. The nurse didn't like that and told me to come into the hospital to be checked. I wasn't thrilled, Todd's surgery was the next day and I didn't feel like it was something that warranted a trip to the hospital so, I didn't go. I had more contractions all day at the surgical center but they were irregular too. On the way home though, they got a little more painful and I felt like bearing down. I had some more episodes with fluid and Todd got on my case about calling the DR. I did and no big surprise, they told me to go to the hospital. This time, I went at Todd's insistence but, I had to go alone. And, it was raining out. And, it was late. I got there around 11:30pm and the nightmare began. The nurse attempted to put in an IV twice and didn't get my vein, it hurt so bad that I was practically screaming. Another nurse got it in on the third try but for some reason blood went everywhere on the bed and my hands. The DR finally came in at 1:30am and did an exam, I am dialated a little but apparently the fluid wasn't amniotic fluid so that was good. He said the contractions don't seem to be "constructive" but need to be watched. He also did an ultrasound and I got to see Amelia, she looked SO different from 20 weeks! Her arms and legs almost looked chubby and I got to see her little face too. She had long legs like Jackson and looked just perfect. I was so happy to get to see her! After that the DR released me and by the time I made it to my car it was 2:30am. It was still raining but I made it home by 3am and went straight to bed. What a terrible night! Ive been trying to take care of Todd and recover ever since. Hopefully this week I can try to catch up on some more sleep and Ill begin to feel better. I'm still having irregular contractions but will likely deal with that at my next appointment.
